Modern Slavery Statement for Garbage Disposal

This Modern Slavery Statement sets out the steps Garbage Disposal has taken, and continues to take, to prevent modern slavery and human trafficking in our business and supply chains. As a provider of waste and recycling services, we recognise our responsibility to operate ethically, transparently, and with respect for human rights in all aspects of our operations.

Our Zero-Tolerance Policy

Garbage Disposal has a zero-tolerance policy towards all forms of modern slavery, including forced labour, bonded labour, human trafficking, child labour, and any form of exploitation or coercion. This policy applies to all employees, agency workers, contractors, and suppliers engaged by our business. We are committed to acting with integrity in all business relationships and to implementing and enforcing effective systems and controls to ensure slavery and human trafficking are not taking place within our own operations or our wider supply chain.

All managers and supervisors are responsible for promoting this policy, ensuring that teams understand it, and that actions and decisions are consistent with our zero-tolerance stance. Disciplinary action, up to and including termination of contracts, may be taken against any individual or organisation found to be in breach of this policy.

Supplier Standards and Audits

Our supply chain includes providers of waste collection equipment, vehicles, personal protective equipment, recycling facilities, and support services. We expect all suppliers to share our commitment to ethical labour practices. Our supplier standards explicitly prohibit forced, bonded, or involuntary labour, child labour that does not comply with applicable law, and any form of abuse, harassment, or exploitation.

As part of our due diligence processes, we conduct risk-based assessments of new and existing suppliers. Higher-risk suppliers, based on sector, geography, or labour profile, are subject to enhanced screening and may be required to provide detailed information on their labour practices, recruitment processes, and subcontractor management. Where appropriate, we carry out audits, which may be desk-based reviews or on-site assessments, to verify compliance with our standards.

If a supplier is unable or unwilling to remedy identified issues within an agreed timeframe, Garbage Disposal reserves the right to suspend or terminate the business relationship.

Reporting Channels and Whistleblowing

We encourage a culture of openness where concerns about modern slavery can be raised without fear of retaliation. All employees, contractors, and suppliers are expected to report any suspicion or evidence of modern slavery or human trafficking within our operations or supply chain.

Concerns can be raised through internal reporting lines, including line managers, the human resources team, or a designated senior manager responsible for compliance. We also maintain a confidential reporting channel that allows individuals to raise issues anonymously if they prefer. All reports are treated seriously, investigated promptly, and handled sensitively.

We do not tolerate victimisation of any person who raises a concern in good faith. Appropriate support will be provided to individuals affected by modern slavery, and we will cooperate with relevant authorities where criminal activity is suspected.

Training, Awareness, and Continuous Improvement

Garbage Disposal provides training and guidance to relevant employees, particularly those in procurement, contract management, and operational leadership, to help them identify indicators of modern slavery and understand the correct procedures for reporting concerns. We review our training materials regularly to ensure they reflect current risks, good practice, and legal requirements.

We recognise that the risks associated with modern slavery evolve over time. We therefore seek to improve our processes through engagement with industry peers, external expertise where needed, and feedback from our workforce and partners.

Annual Review and Governance

This Modern Slavery Statement is reviewed annually by the senior management team to ensure its continued effectiveness and alignment with legal and regulatory requirements. As part of the annual review, we assess any incidents reported, the outcomes of supplier audits, and the effectiveness of our training and communication activities.

Updates to our policies, supplier standards, and due diligence procedures are made where necessary, and clear responsibilities are assigned for implementation. The reviewed statement is approved by the leadership of Garbage Disposal and communicated across the business and to key suppliers, reinforcing our ongoing commitment to preventing modern slavery and protecting human rights in all areas of our work.
